Nothing New Challenge - February review

Hello lovelies, and welcome to the second review of my Nothing New Challenge year (if you have no idea what I’m talking about, go check out this post).
The month of February has been an interesting one. I went from not needing anything yet acquiring piles of stuff, to suddenly having to make some big, grownup purchases like a whole new mattress.
For the first half of the month I just lived my life without needing to buy anything. I had one occasion where it would have been nice to wear something funky, and I was lucky enough to receive some hand-me-downs from a flatmate.
Then, towards the end of the month, my friend Sabrina and I organised a clothes swap. Clothes swaps are my favourite way to get rid go stuff and acquire new stuff, not only because they are free, but because you know your things are going to someone who actually wants them and will hopefully love them as much as you have. I did manage to get rid of some things, but unfortunately I also ended up picking up quite a few new items (no regrets).
On top of that, I also received more kind donations from a friend. Long story short: by the end of the month I had an entire box full of new clothes.
I am super ok with that, since now I have the space for storing them AND one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to incorporate more fun pieces into my wardrobe (specifically mesh and glitter).
Something else that happened is that, during the month of February I have been subletting a room in town (I needed a break from Shid - stay tuned if you want to know more). During this time of self-care and reflection, I have realised how important having my own space is for me right now, so I decided to look for a proper room to rent over winter. Once I found one, I also realised I didn’t have a lot of things that are kinda useful when you live in a house, like a mattress. When I moved into Shid, I got rid of a whole lot of stuff, and now all I was left with were a bookcase and an armchair (two pieces of furniture I couldn’t part with).
So the last week of February was spent raiding Facebook Marketplace in search of a bunch of things I knew I would need in my new house. Some things I ended up buying in March so you’ll see them in my next review, but this is what I got in February:
A clothes rack (scored for $10 at a Salvation Army the minute someone dropped it off, looks pretty new)
A memory foam mattress (found on Facebook Marketplace, barely used, for $30)
A mattress topper (also on Facebook Marketplace, barely used, for $10)
The whole mattress situation deserves a separate post which will come up in March, along with everything else I acquired for my new room.
So far I’m very pleased with how this challenge is going. I definitely have welcomed HEAPS of new items into my life, but so far everything is pre-loved and I didn’t even have to pay for most of them.
Stay tuned for more life updates coming to you soon!
