Unexpected luxuries

Living in Shid has not necessarily been uncomfortable, however there are a few things that I have been appreciating a lot while subletting.

  1. Showering every day
Or should I say, knowing where to shower if I want to. I don’t mind not showering every day, but I will if I can, and I’ve been appreciating the fact that I know exactly where to do so when I want to.

  2. Meal prepping
Our bus fridge doesn’t really work and we don’t have a freezer, which means meal prepping has been impossible. So in the past couple of weeks I’ve been having some big as cooking sessions and put those Tupperwares to a good use.

  3. Having an oven
Related to the above: I freaking love roasted veggies so I’ve been eating a lot of those too.

  4. Doing different things in different rooms
Walking through a door to go to the living room or sleeping in a room that’s not also your kitchen feels like such a treat. Having to go to another room to retrieve something you’ve forgotten is no longer annoying. It’s also been nice to not have to walk outside/through a carpark/to the gym to use the toilet - that’s a bit of a stretch to the concept of “a different room”.

  5. Pooping when I need to
I can pee when I need to in the bus, but pooping is a whole different story. In a house, I can just poop the moment I feel like I have to. Unbelievable, right?

  6. Doing the laundry
It's been quite nice to not have to drive around to do the laundry, and to have space to hang the clothes that can’t go in the drier. But I also miss the laundromat as I am the most prolific there when it comes to writing poetry.

There are also things I haven’t been enjoying about subletting, but that’s a topic for a different posts. Overall it’s been nice to have more space, and to get to hang out with the friends we are staying with. But I also miss Shid. But I’m also grateful to have a place to stay.

I guess it’s a bit of confusing time. Can anyone relate?
